We require:

  • Three letters of recommendation
  • Personal statement (650 words)
  • GRE and GMAT are not required
  • GPA 3.0 plus

Master of Science in Quantitative Economics (MSQE) Program

The MSQE program emphasizes the development of skills in quantitative methods and data analysis, as well as the application of those skills to economic problems.  The program combines training in economic principles/theory with strong training in quantitative and analytical methods.  The program qualifies as a STEM program.  It is designed for individuals who seek careers in public and private sectors, including, for example, insurance companies, health care providers, think-tanks, financial consultancies, accounting firms, and academic institutions.

The program requires a minimum of 30-credits and typically is completed over three semesters.   Due to course sequencing, students are only admitted to the MSQE program for the Fall semester.

Specific Requirements

An M.S.Q.E. student completes at least 30 credits maintaining at least a “B” average. Of these 30 credits, 24 are core courses, and 6 or more are electives.

 Semester I (Fall)

  • Microeconomics (3 credits)
  • Macroeconomics (3 credits)
  • Mathematical Economics (3 credits)
  • Applied Econometrics (3 credits)

Semester II (Spring)

  • Applied Econometrics II (3 credits)
  • Programming and Computation with R (3 credits)
  • Economics Elective (3 credits)
  • Economics Optional: Writing and Communication Economics and Business I (2 credits)

Semester (Summer)

  • Internship (Optional)

Semester III (Fall)

  • Panel Data Econometrics (3 credits)
  • Machine Learning for Economists (3 credits)
  • Economics Elective: Financial Econometrics, Mechanism Design, Operations Research  (3 credits)
  • Economics Optional: Writing Communication Economics and Business II (1 credit)
