Professor Harmon received his Ph.D. in economics from Rutgers University. He is associate professor of economics at the University since 1994.  His commitment to teaching has been recognized by several university wide awards including the AAUP-UConn Career Excellence Teaching Award 2022, and the UConn University Teaching Fellow Award 2021.  His current research interests are economic education and sports economics. His work has been published in academic journals including Journal of Urban Economics, American Economic Review, National Tax Journal, Journal of Economic Education, Journal of Real Estate Finance and Economics, and Real Estate Economics. He has written extensively about online instructional methods and learning outcomes. His service to UConn includes contributing to development of the UConn Master of Science in Quantitative Economics (MSQE) program since its inception in 2017.  His service to the external community includes serving as a member of the American Economic Association Committee on Economic Education (2018-21), and currently as chair of the Committee on the Economic Status of the Profession, for the American Association of University Professors (2018-p).
